Drift Tire Test
Driver: Tomy Boisvert-Bellemare
Cooperation: Lacroix Tuning
Car: 700+whp BMW
Track: Ste-Croix Oval, longest and most rigorous of the season.
Tires tested:
Zestino Acrova 07A (190$)
Zestino Gredge 07R (200$)
Zeknova Super Sport RS (~200$)
Falken RT-660 (~450$)
Tests:
We had 4 tires of each models (2 sets of 2 rear tires)
We went on the longest and roughest drift track we visit un Canada, with a driver constantly in the Top 4, finishing 5th in the final standings (even by not participating in the final round)
We did 2 practice runs to understand each tires and try to get the most of of each, we then switched for new tires and did 2 qualifying run simulations. (Agressive driving)
We measured thread depth, compound softeness, tires pressure variations, and tire surface temperature, will not write all the data taken during the test, everything depends on som many factors, it was measured in the purposes of understand each tires and better adjust the pressure and camber for the real test run. We also wanted to understand which tires resists the most to temperature. All tires being very similar on the fact that surpassing 205-210 F(by pyrometer), each tires seems to lose grip about the same way, we modified our settings for each tires to finish our 2 runs with a temperature of about 195 F, since we felt they all liked that temperature range to keep consistent performance.
We also timed the lap times at 3 different places, we are going to show only the overall lap time of each of the 2 lap runs per tires. Split times were taken to see at which point we would lose grip on the last lap. Every tires being very similar execpt for the Falken RT-660 that lost a good amount of speed/grip the last long banked curve, but tire was completely worn out (after 1.75 runs).
The Gredge 07R also add a bit of wires coming out of the tire (shown on picture), on the outer edge, but didnt loose any speed. Also during a racing event we saw a driver doing a little longer run, wear the Gredge 07R to the cords, we could hear the wires grinding the asphalt, could see orange flames in the smoke, but the tire never exploded and still had good grip even with severe exagerrated wear!
Results
Acrova 07A Lap2 : 23.31 (A bit slower but, the best wear life)
Zeknova RS Lap2 23.03 (almost 100% worn, maybe 97-98%... no tread left)
Zestino Gredge 07R Lap2 : 22.61 (fully worn, 100%, so quite a bit faster than other tire, with not much more wear)
